Sayeg specializes in transforming exterior city spaces and objects – parking meters, bike racks, and lampposts, for example – into unexpected works of art. Her medium is knitting, which she does by hand or with a loom, depending on the size of the project.
Sayeg works to redefine knitting, an art form that’s all too often relegated to craft and associated with scarves and winter sweaters.
Commissioned by Art Alliance Austin for Art Week Austin 2010, Sayeg will cover parts of downtown Austin with brilliant swaths of knitted, repurposed material.
