Cook and Ruud
Cook & Ruud, a not-for-profit think tank and production team comprised of Rachel Cook and Claire Ruud, has the primary objective of the investigation of new models for the production and presentation of contemporary art. Through collaborations with organizations like Art Alliance Austin and projects like this pilot program, their goal is to develop new models for supporting artwork in Austin at a moment of cultural and economic upheaval.
Cook has curated a number of group shows, most recently, “Now that I’m by myself,” she said “I’m not by myself, which is good.” at DiverseWorks in Houston and I am not so different at Art Palace’s project space in Austin. Cook serves as the Marketing Director of Art Lies magazine and as a consultant to The University of Texas at Austin Department of Art + Art History’s new Visual Arts Center. Claire Ruud, who is currently the Associate Director of Fluent~Collaborative, has gained extensive experience moderating collaborations between artists, writers and curators through testsite, Fluent~Collaborative’s experimental exhibition space. She is also deeply involved in the practice and business of critical writing about art through her role as editor of …might be good. Together, Cook & Ruud bring a vast array of practical skills and intellectual interests to the collaboration, with the flexibility to oversee the creation of this pilot program as well as mount these temporary projects throughout downtown Austin.
